What is Rapé / Hapé?
Rapé (pronounced “ha-peh” or “rapay”) is sacred shamanic snuff medicine. It is legal, usually made of tobacco powder and various Amazonian medicinal plants, trees, leaves, seeds, and other sacred ingredients that are ground into a fine, aromatic powder. Rapé is a rare and profoundly healing and cleansing miracle medicine that has been used since ancient times.
How is Rapé administered?
Rapé is traditionally blown through each nostril on both sides using a pipe made from bamboo or bone. It can be self-administered using a V-shaped self-applicator pipe (Kuripe) that connects the mouth to the nostrils. More often, though, Rapé is administered by another person using a blow pipe (Tepi) that connects the blower’s mouth to the other person’s nostrils. To respect the spiritual healing it offers, Rapé should be used only in a quiet, sacred space, with sacred music playing if you’d like. After each application, you should breathe slowly and with intention, with your eyes closed.
What can I expect from the Rapé experience?
You may experience purging, vomiting, bowel movements, and/or excess saliva after a Rapé, application. This is normal, however, and indicates that negative energy, toxins, and sickness are being released from your body. You may need a bucket, toilet tissue, and drinking water close to hand.
What are the healing effects of Rapé?
The intense blow of the Rapé immediately focuses the mind. By quieting the noise that fills our mind, it opens us up, and intensifies our connection with the world and the universe. Rapé profoundly helps to realign and open all your chakras or energy channels, including the third eye. It helps clear negativity and confusion, which can improve your spiritual and emotional grounding. This paves the way for releasing emotional, physical, and spiritual illnesses and eases from our minds and bodies, including helping to detoxify the body. In this way, it can relieve one of all excess mucus, toxins, and bacteria, thereby even assisting in fighting colds and snuffles. For these many healing effects, Rapé is often used in conjunction with an Aya ceremony or Sananga medicine to help with purging, releasing sickness, moving any stuck energy flows, and clearing one’s mind.
